To Jake, “Border Australia”
On June 31st, I left Australia from Sydney Airport. I still remember looking into your eyes while you were working behind the counter. You asked me if I had a return ticket back to Sydney, and with a big smile I said yes. You smiled back with a gentle warning: “Alright, you know you’re on a tourist visa, so be careful.”
And then, on July 1st, you came over to check on me. My heart was racing at 120, but the moment you walked in, it calmed to normal. You helped me find the words: “I’ll be looked after, and my dream is just on hold for a few years.” You told me that after some years, you’d love to see me back.
I hope I’ll see you again—so the dream can might become even more beautiful.
