Jury Duty
We met at jury duty. I happened to notice you looking at me as I walked by you in the hallway outside of the court.. we locked eyes but carried on.
Once we were escorted into the courtroom, I saw you standing by yourself and decided to stand near you. Minutes passed, you introduced yourself and asked for me to listen for your name as you went to the bathroom. Once you returned, I let you know that your name was not called and you thanked me. More times passes as we wait for roll call - finally your name comes, I made a joke about how unfortunate it was that you were so closed to not being called for the jury panel.. you laughed, we began chatting, and you invited me to sit with you as we wait out this process.
We spent 5 hours together, conversing and getting to know each other non stop. We expressed vulnerabilities, shared stories, and discovered we shared much in common. I did make note of the ring on your finger and was respectful of that fact.
After 5 hours, we are finally let go and walk towards the entry of the courthouse together. You asked me if I minded hugs, we embraced and you left with the words expressing hope that our paths would cross again - I shared the sentiment and told you how nice it was meeting you.
Our time together has been on my mind - it’s rare to meet people as genuine as you these days, let alone someone with a near identical mindset. I do respect your marriage and am unsure if these feelings are romantic or perhaps I just long for a friendship with someone so similar to myself. I’m sure these thoughts on your mind as well.
I hope our paths do cross again and that this post helps us take control of that.
