Sighting

You were over by the postcards, earnestly looking at them. Dark hair, a full beard, wearing glasses and a beige overcoat. I casually struck up a conversation, and then you proceeded to hold one with me. You had beautiful blue eyes, and when you took off your glasses, they made your smile light up.

I was the awkward American with green hair and glasses, the one who didn’t seem to sound all that interesting. But you held a polite conversation with me! Asked if I visited up North of England, like Manchester. I said I hadn’t, that I just spent some days in Edinburgh and was only here in London until next week. You told me you were visiting with your parents, that they were off somewhere and that last night you’d seen Lés Miserables. You also mentioned seeing Phantom of the Opera.

But what I remember most is your smile, that you were captivating and made me nervous (in a good way), and that I had missed a chance after you were gone.

I kept my eye out for a handsome Welsh man who a cute smile, the one who told me he liked postcards cause he enjoyed writing a little something on the back to remember the trip by.

I should have given you my name. I should have got yours.
