Terms of Use
Last updated 31 October 2026 · iSawYou LLC
iSawYou is a place to post about someone you noticed in public and hope to find again, and to find out whether someone noticed you. Be kind, be honest, keep it to adults, and never use iSawYou to track, frighten or expose anyone. You own what you post; we need a licence to show it. Some features cost money, and those have their own Subscription Terms. How we handle your information is in our Privacy Policy.
This summary is here to help. The sections below are the actual terms.
iSawYou is run by iSawYou LLC, a company registered in Washington, United States, at 1240 W Sims Way #11, Port Townsend, WA 98368, United States ("iSawYou", "we", "us"). These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and us about your use of isawyou.com, isawyou.dev and the iSawYou app (together, "iSawYou").
By creating an account or using iSawYou, you agree to these terms, our Community Guidelines and, if you buy anything, our Subscription Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use iSawYou.
We may update these terms. If a change matters to you, we'll tell you by email or on the site at least 14 days before it takes effect. If you keep using iSawYou after that, the new terms apply. If you don't agree with them, you can close your account.
- You must be at least 18 years old. iSawYou is for adults only.
- One person, one account. The information you give us must be true, and you must keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens on your account.
- You can't use iSawYou if we've closed an account of yours before, or if the law where you live doesn't allow you to.
- If you sign in with Google or Apple, their terms also apply to that sign-in.
- Sightings are public posts tied to a city and, if you choose, a zone (a place such as a station, park or venue). Anyone, including search engines, can see them.
- Alerts show you sightings that could be about you, based on places and choices you set. It never follows your location in the background.
- Connect lets you send a short message to someone who posted a sighting. If they accept, you can chat privately.
- Icebreaker is an AI writing helper. It turns what you tell it into a draft sighting or connection message. You decide what to post, and you're responsible for it as if you'd written it yourself. Sightings written with Icebreaker say so.
- Pictures of the place, which Icebreaker can add, are freely licensed photos (for example from Wikimedia Commons) shown with the photographer's credit and licence. They show the place, never a person.
- Paid features (extraVert, sending alerts and the Verified badge) are covered by the Subscription Terms.
We change and improve iSawYou over time, and we may add, change or remove features.
You own what you post: your sightings, photos, profile and messages ("your content"). To run iSawYou we need your permission to use it, so you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, display, adapt (for example resize a photo or show a short excerpt), translate and share your content, as needed to operate, show and promote iSawYou. We may let the companies that help us run iSawYou use it for that purpose only. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups for a limited time, content other people have already shared, and anything we must keep by law.
You promise that:
- you have the right to post it, including any photo, and posting it doesn't break anyone's copyright, privacy or other rights;
- it follows the Community Guidelines and the law;
- anything you say about a real person is honest.
Photos of people in public are allowed, but you are responsible for them. Anyone who appears in a sighting can ask us to remove it (see section 7). Never post intimate or sexual images of anyone, or any image of someone who may be under 18.
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.
Our Community Guidelines are part of these terms. In particular, you must not:
- use iSawYou to stalk, track, harass, threaten or frighten anyone, or to find out where someone lives;
- post anyone's personal details (where they live, their phone number, email or social media handle, or their full name with where they work or study);
- post sexual content involving anyone who is or looks under 18, or intimate images of anyone without their consent;
- impersonate anyone, make fake accounts, or misrepresent who you are;
- advertise, sell, spam, scam or recruit, including for sex work;
- scrape, copy or harvest content or members' details, or use bots or automated tools without our written permission;
- try to break, overload or get around iSawYou's security, limits or moderation, including by trying to instruct our automated checker;
- break the law.
Checks. We check posts, photos and first messages automatically, with an AI classifier, and people review anything unclear. We may remove, hold for review, edit (for example to remove personal details), or refuse any content, and we may limit or close accounts that break these terms or the Community Guidelines. We close accounts used for threats, sexual content involving anyone under 18, trafficking or terrorism, and we remove the accounts of anyone under 18.
Reporting. Anyone can tell us about something on iSawYou that is illegal, unsafe or against our rules:
- a sighting: tap Flag on it and choose a reason;
- a sighting about you: Flag, then "This post is about me". You don't need an account (see section 7);
- a member, or something said in a chat: use the Contact form, choose "Report a Problem", and tell us who it was, what happened and roughly when. You can also Block them in the chat;
- a zone: "Let us know" on the zone's page;
- a member who may be under 18: Flag their sighting or use the Contact form. We deal with these first.
What we do with reports. We aim to review reports within 72 hours, sooner for anything urgent, and act on anything that breaks the law or our rules. We may keep a copy as evidence where the law requires or allows it. We report child sexual abuse material to the authorities as the law requires, and we may tell the police about a threat to someone's life. If someone is in danger right now, call the police first (999 in the UK, 911 in the US).
Complaints and appeals. When we act on your post or account, we tell you why, and you can ask for a person to look again. You can also complain about a report we didn't act on, about how our automated checks treated your content, or about anything else in how we keep iSawYou safe, including if you think we aren't meeting our legal duties. Use the Contact form ("Report a Problem") or email [email protected]. We aim to answer complaints within 14 days.
We don't promise to catch everything, and we aren't responsible for what members post.
If a sighting is about you, shows you, or shares your personal information, tap Flag on that sighting, then "This post is about me", to ask us to remove it or its photo. You don't need an account. Intimate images shared without consent are hidden as soon as they're reported, and handled within 48 hours.
If you believe something on iSawYou infringes your copyright, send a notice under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act to our designated copyright agent: Varen Swaab, iSawYou LLC, 1240 W Sims Way #11, Port Townsend, WA 98368, United States · 425-953-7011 · [email protected]. Include your contact details, the work you own, where the infringing material is on iSawYou, a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorised, a statement that your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorised to act for them, and your signature. We remove infringing material and close the accounts of repeat infringers. If your content was removed by mistake, you can send a counter-notice.
iSawYou helps people find each other, but we don't vet members, and we can't promise anyone is who they say they are. A Verified badge only means that person matched a government ID and a selfie at the time they verified; it isn't a background check. Meet in public, tell a friend where you're going, and leave if something feels wrong. You're responsible for your own interactions with other members, online and in person.
Some parts of iSawYou are provided by other companies, such as Stripe (payments and identity checks), TalkJS (chat), Google and Apple (sign-in), and the map and photo providers credited on the site. Their own terms may apply when you use those parts. Links to other websites aren't endorsements, and we aren't responsible for them.
"iSawYou", "iSawYou Missed-Connections", "extraVert", the iSawYou wordmark and the signal logo are trademarks of iSawYou LLC. The site's design, software and our own content belong to us or our licensors. You may use iSawYou for your own personal, non-commercial use; don't copy, sell or build on our site, content or marks without our written permission. See Legal Notices for credits.
You can delete your account at any time in Account > Privacy. That permanently removes your account, profile and sightings. Paid plans are covered by the Subscription Terms.
We may suspend or close your account, or remove access to any feature, if you break these terms or the Community Guidelines, if the law requires it, or to protect members or iSawYou. Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you why. If we close iSawYou altogether, we'll give you reasonable notice.
We work hard to keep iSawYou running and safe, but we provide it "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we don't promise that iSawYou will always be available, free of errors, or that you'll find the person you're looking for, and we disclaim implied warranties such as merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Content on iSawYou comes from members, and we don't vouch for it.
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of iSawYou or from anything another member does or posts. Our total liability for any claim relating to iSawYou is limited to the greater of US$100 or what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
You agree to cover our reasonable costs, including legal fees, if a claim is brought against us because of your content, your breach of these terms, or your conduct towards another member.
Some places don't allow these limits. If you live in one of them, they apply only as far as your local law allows, and nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Talk to us first. If you have a problem with iSawYou, email [email protected]. Most issues can be fixed that way. Both of us agree to try to settle a dispute informally for 60 days before starting a formal claim.
Arbitration. If you live in the United States, any dispute we can't settle will be resolved by binding individual arbitration under the American Arbitration Association's Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court, except that either of us may bring an individual claim in small-claims court, or ask a court to stop infringement of intellectual property. Arbitration will take place in Jefferson County, Washington, or by video or phone. You and we each give up the right to a jury trial and to take part in a class action. You can opt out of arbitration by emailing [email protected] within 30 days of first accepting these terms.
If you live outside the United States, you keep any rights your local consumer law gives you, including to bring a claim in your local courts.

If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we haven't given up the right to. You can't transfer your account or these terms; we can transfer them to a company that takes over iSawYou. These terms, the Community Guidelines, the Subscription Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about iSawYou.
